Katie and Daniel Curtis hired a robotic garden clearer to tackle overgrown trees and bushes to the rear of their newly-purchased property – and they couldn’t believe what the previous owner had left behind
A Kent couple who recently got the keys to their new home have revealed their astonishment after uncovering an extraordinary discovery in their property’s rear garden. Katie Curtis shared the remarkable find on TikTok, detailing her plans with husband Daniel for what they stumbled upon.
“You are not going to believe what we found hidden in the brambles and overgrown trees, branches and bushes at the back of our boundary,” she began in a video. “We have now lived in this bungalow for three weeks and the main reason we bought it was for the amount of land it came with and the opportunity to build our forever home.”
The generous plot size certainly delivered dividends as the duo unearthed an entirely new venture to tackle. Sharing footage of the pair venturing across their land towards the discovery, Katie continued: “We are just so excited to get started, but the first thing we need to do on the journey is clear the back of the boundary, which is massively overgrown.”
Now, Katie and Daniel have brought in a robotic device – resembling a ride-on mower – operated by workers that “barges into brambles”, crushing them down and converting them into “mulch”.
“It’s very impressive, quick and effective,” Katie observed as the work got under way. “Anyway, amongst it all is a caravan hidden away in there since the 1980s, untouched.”
She went on to reveal that the property’s previous owner had since provided the caravan’s key – with Katie venturing inside for the first time in a subsequent video. “Now remember this caravan has not been touched since the 1980s,” Katie said, revealing its faded green exterior. In a further twist, the key provided didn’t work, with Daniel having to “rip” the door off instead.
Despite its dilapidated interior, Katie confessed that she and her husband were “excited” about their renovation plans. “It’d be a cool play den for our boys, but look at the state of it,” she remarked. “Honestly my skin was crawling.”
However, Katie shared that Daniel had reassured her that their “vision will become a reality” as he intends to completely gut the caravan. She closed by expressing her revulsion at finding milk and hot chocolate powder left untouched for decades, along with a pullout bed smothered in mould.
“It’s actually a really big caravan,” Katie noted, adding, “And I’m really excited by it.”
Writing in response, however, several TikTok users cautioned the couple against attempting the transformation. “The price it’ll cost you to do up that old van you could buy one for either cheaper or same price,” one person advised.
Another warned: “It’ll be rotted to pieces, absolutely not worth trying to salvage any of it.” A third pointed out: “The previous owner was doing himself a favour, not you! It’s just work and expense getting rid of it!”.
A fourth TikTok user declared: “That caravan is done hun. There is no saving that. There will be mould throughout.”
However, there were those who voiced their backing for the project, including one woman who passionately stated: “All the comments telling you what you should do is crazy! Just do what you guys want to do I’m sure whatever happens you will make it amazing.”
