Due to the abundance of choices, the ultimate question is, where is the one place you have to visit in Sussex?
We asked Argus readers to share the one place they would recommend people go to in the area, and one market town was mentioned by many.
Why this scenic market town with ‘urban chic’ is a great place to visit
One spot that was mentioned plenty of times by Argus readers was the market town of Arundel.
Discover Sussex describes the spot as a historic town that is a popular tourist spot due to its “beautiful listed buildings and scenic surroundings”.
It adds that visiting the town makes for a “lovely day out”, with plenty of things to do, and places to visit and eat.
On why you should visit Arundel, the website says: “There’s just something about the historic feel of the town, paired with the independent shops, castle, architecture and old-world charm, that makes it a town we love to visit.
“At Christmas, the festive lights also add to the cosy yet stylish atmosphere of the town, which makes it a truly magical place.”

Meanwhile, Visit Arundel says the town “captures the essence of heritage, urban chic and country pursuits, all within a stone’s throw of London”.
It says the town has “something for everyone”, from independent shops and contemporary art galleries to great restaurants, cafes, drinking spots and attractions.
The town has earned plenty of praise previously, including being named among the best in the UK .
If you are looking for things to do, visiting Arundel Castle and Arundel Cathedral are two incredible spots for any daytripper, or those visiting for a longer stay.
You could also take a dip at the Arundel Lido if it is sunny, or enjoy the sights and songs of wildlife at the WWT Wetland Centre, home to various species such as kingfishers, water birds, songbirds and bats.

Arundel is also home to many great independent shops and places to eat.
Some of the best restaurants and cafes to visit, as recommended by Discover Sussex, include Juniper, Bagels & Coffee, Motte & Bailey, Lulamae’s and both Amberley Village and Swanbourne Lake tearooms.

Arundel, however, was not the only place Argus readers picked out as being the one place in Sussex you have to visit.
Many said the South Downs National Park.
One reader said: “Go for some lovely walks on the South Downs. Chanctonbury Ring, Cissbury, Mount Caburm, etc, I love it there so much. And after a pint of Harveys in a traditional pub.”
Another said: “The Camera obscura in Foredown Tower, Portslade. A very special view of the Downs. I do hope it is still open to visitors! Google it, Tuesdays and Thursday and the last Saturdays of the month it says…”
A third person added: “The South Downs are absolutely stunning. Beautiful scenery – fantastic walks – any time of year!”
Beachey Head in Eastbourne was another popular spot.
Beachy Head is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, offering some great views.
Other places mentioned included Bosham, Ashdown Forest, Hurstmonceux Castle and Gardens, Shoreham and its beach, Cuckmere Valley and of course, the Seven Sisters cliffs.
