Bikers taking part in the 14th Skyline London to Brighton Bike Ride will head off from Clapham Common on Sunday from 6am towards the finish line at Madeira Drive in Brighton.
The event will see thousands of riders completing the 55-mile ride through south London, Surrey, West and East Sussex and all the way to the Brighton finish on Madeira Drive – in the process raising over £1.5 million.
Organisers say the event will be “bigger than ever” this year, with traffic management measures in place to ensure the safety of riders and access is maintained for residents.
One of the most gruelling stretches of the route, the incline up Ditchling Beacon, will be shut off to drivers from 06:00 to 19:00 while Coldean Lane will be closed to through traffic from 07:00 to 18:00.
Resident access will be provided at all times from the A270 Lewes Road junction via Park Road, with vehicles managed out from Park Road to the A270 junction for onward travel.
There will be no access during the event towards Ditchling Beacon on Coldean Lane or from the A27 Carden Avenue junction down Coldean Lane, traffic will be diverted south on Ditchling Road.
Those who live on Coldean Lane itself will be able to exit down to Park Road on the wrong side of the road and return via Forest Road which will be facilitated by marshals.
Residents in Denman Place will have access via Hawkhurst Road North managed by Stop\Go control during breaks in the cyclists, with some delays to be expected.
The event continues into Brighton via the Lewes Road and Valley Gardens to the Aquarium roundabout on open roads.
Madeira Drive will also be closed to traffic for the event.
A spokesman for organisers Skyline Events said: “We would emphasise that emergency vehicles will have priority access at all times.
“If you are walking on the route, please take extra care as the road will be busy with cyclists at peak times.”
