BTP officers were called to reports of a stabbing at Seaford station in East Sussex at around 5pm on Wednesday, September 10.
Officers from Sussex Police and paramedics also attended the incident.
The boy, who was found with a serious injury, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
Another 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. The two boys are thought to have been known to each other.

In a media statement outside Seaford station on Thursday afternoon, Superintendent Dominique Ioannou said:
“I want to begin by expressing our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the teenage boy who tragically lost his life here at Seaford station yesterday evening.”
They later added: “His family are being supported by specially trained officers, and we would ask their privacy is respected as they come to terms with this terrible news.
“We understand that this news will also be incredibly distressing for the local community.
“Please be assured that British Transport Police have launched a full investigation and are working closely with colleagues including Sussex Police to establish exactly what happened.”
The stabbing is being treated as an isolated incident and police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident, the superintendent confirmed.

They also warned of an increased police presence while the investigation continued, and thanked locals for their patience.

A spokesperson for Southern and Govia Thameslink Railway, which runs Southern services from Seaford station, also issued a comment regarding the incident.
Louis Rambaud, Chief Customer Officer at Govia Thameslink Railway, said:
“We’re terribly saddened by this tragedy and the hearts of everyone I work with here at Southern and GTR go out to this boy’s family and friends, as well as the community, which is understandably in shock.
“We are doing everything in our power to help the police with their enquiry.”
