A new exhibition is now open at Brighton and Hove City Council’s Seafront Gallery to mark the event’s 20th anniversary, with the gallery located next to the i360 on the seafront.
Running from Thursday, August 21 to Sunday, August 31, the display features photographs by David Clarke of Dammo Photography, taken over the past 10 years of the Mod Weekender and selected from his book Through My Eyes.
Councillor Birgit Miller, cabinet member for culture, heritage and tourism, said: “It’s always a treat to see hundreds of shining scooters lined up along the seafront as we welcome the Mod Weekender to the city.
“We are delighted to join the 20th anniversary celebrations by hosting this unique free photographic exhibition at our seafront gallery which brilliantly captures this iconic, nostalgic and much-loved event.”
The Brighton Mod Weekender, organised by The New Untouchables, has gathered Mods from around the world every August bank holiday since 2005.
Centred around The Volks Railway, the event fills the seafront with classic scooters and pays tribute to the iconic film Quadrophenia.
Though now embraced by the city, the Mod scene was once less welcome in Brighton.
During the 1960s and the 1980s Mod revival, Mods were banned from setting foot on the pier.
The exhibition is free to visit and is part of the wider 2025 Brighton Mod Weekender programme, which includes DJs, live bands, a scooter competition and the traditional rideout.
