Brighton and Hove Albion announced they will be creating and maintaining a memorial garden on land at New Monks Park in Lancing.
The garden will be located on land adjacent to the airport link road, footpath and cycle path, ensuring it is accessible to all.
The design concept will reflect the natural beauty of the South Downs and will be designed to honour not only the eleven men who lost their lives, but also those affected by the tragedy.
The garden will evolve with the seasons, with trees and vegetation carefully selected to suit the local environment. Trees will also be planted to provide a natural shield from nearby traffic and noise.
Brighton and Hove Albion has said that families who lost loved ones will be involved in the memorial garden’s process and are supportive of the concept.
The club is also working closely with Adur District Council, which has expressed its support for the initiative.
Albion’s chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber said: “The club has always privately honoured the memory of those affected, not least our colleague Matt Grimstone, and his close friend, Jacob Schilt, who we had also got to know well.
“However, as we approach the tenth anniversary of the tragedy, it feels like the right time to create a lasting and meaningful tribute that is more public.
“We know this is a deeply important project for the families of those directly and indirectly affected, and indeed the wider community, as Shoreham air crash had such a profound impact on so many lives.
“We hope this memorial garden will offer a peaceful space for reflection and remembrance for everyone, and we are grateful for the support of the families as we move forward.”
This Friday (August 22) will mark ten years since the Shoreham Airshow crash.
Eleven men lost their lives when a vintage plane crashed onto the A27 on August 22 in 2015.
The victims were: Maurice Abrahams, 76; Tony Brightwell, 53; Matthew Grimstone, Jacob Schilt and Daniele Polito, all 23; Matt Jones, 24; Graham Mallinson, 72; Mark Reeves, 53; Dylan Archer, 42; Richard Smith, 26, and Mark Trussler, 54, who all lived in Sussex.
To mark Friday’s anniversary, a memorial service is set to be held at St Nicolas Church in Shoreham.
A two-minute silence is also to be held at the Shoreham Toll Bridge at 1.22pm.
