The modular classroom, found to be beyond economic repair, will be replaced using £2.581m in funding allocated by West Sussex County Council.
The school’s double modular classroom will be replaced with a permanent extension, featuring two new classrooms, according to the council’s decision on August 11.
The decision was made by the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, and Learning, Councillor Jacquie Russell.
The funding from Basic Need monies will not only cover the construction of the new classrooms but also other associated works.
The project aims to provide permanent accommodation for the school’s 420 pupils, replacing the temporary modular unit approved for installation in May 2024.
The modular unit was deemed necessary to ensure the school had adequate accommodation for the start of the autumn term in 2024.
The council’s plan outlines that following the finalisation of the design, the Assistant Director (Property and Assets) will be granted authority to begin the procurement process and award the contract for the project’s completion.
This includes obtaining any statutory consents in line with the project’s scope and financial parameters.
Storrington Primary School caters to children aged 4-11, with a published admission number of 60.
The structural survey revealing the modular classroom’s condition prompted the decision for replacement.
The project is a key decision, which means it is subject to a call-in process.
If there are no objections, the decision will come into force on August 21.
