Departing Kent fast bowler Nathan Gilchrist has joined Middlesex on loan for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Gilchrist, 25, hasn’t featured for Kent’s first team since it was announced last month he will leave the county at the end of this summer in favour of a three-year deal with County Championship Division 1 side Warwickshire.

He took 4-21 in promotion-chasing Kent League Division 1 club Chestfield 1sts’ 44-run victory at Sidcup 1sts last weekend.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, Kent said: “Kent Cricket can confirm that Nathan Gilchrist has joined Middlesex for the remainder of the men’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

“The right-armer will feature for Middlesex in Group B but will be unable to play against his parent club at Radlett on Tuesday, August 19.

“Gilchrist, 25, will be joining Warwickshire at the conclusion of the 2025 season.”

“With a number of our pace bowling unit currently out with injuries and others returning to fitness, it’s important that we manage the workloads of the quick bowlers in the squad,” director of cricket Alan Coleman told Middlesex’s club website.

“Adding someone of Nathan’s quality allows us to do that and we’re delighted to have added him to the pace ranks.

“He adds genuine pace, plenty of experience and gives our attack something different, as we look to build on a promising performance and victory against Sussex at Lord’s on Sunday.

“Our thanks go to our colleagues at Kent for allowing us to take Nathan on loan for the remainder of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign and we look forward to welcoming him to Middlesex.”

Kent are also reportedly in talks to re-sign former skipper Sam Northeast from Glamorgan.

Ashford-born batsman Northeast, 35, came through Kent’s Academy and spent 10 years in the first team before he left in February 2018 for Hampshire.

He has also had loan spells at Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire since his Kent departure.

Spitfires, beaten in both of their first two 50-over matches this term, have welcomed stand-in skipper Grant Stewart back into their squad after a thigh injury, ahead of tomorrow’s game against Warwickshire at Rugby.

But red-ball captain Daniel Bell-Drummond (knee) and Joe Denly (calf) remain sidelined.

Kent squad: Stewart, Benjamin, Cohen, Compton, Dawkins, Denly, Evison, Finch, Garrett, Klaassen, Leaning, Parkinson, Rizvi, Singh.
