Gillingham’s young goalkeeper Taite Holtam saw red on his league return for loan side Ashford United.
It was a tough afternoon for the Nuts & Bolts, after Holtam was sent off 30 minutes into their Isthmian South East game against Sheppey United, already trailing 1-0.
Holtam’s dismissal for a foul on Sheppey’s Rolando Onu led to striker Gary Lockyer taking over as goalkeeper. He couldn’t keep Sheppey out, with three more goals for the Holm Park side securing a 4-0 victory.
Goalkeeper Holtam is back on loan at Ashford United, a club he played 10 games for last season before making a couple of League 2 appearances for the Gills as cover for injured Glenn Morris.
He’s one of several young players out on loan. Defender Logan Dobbs made his league debut for Welling United on Saturday.
The Wings – managed by former Gills player Lee Martin – lost 4-2 away against Cheshunt in the Isthmian Premier Division.
There were three Gillingham loanees in action as Ramsgate beat Whitehawk 3-2.
Ramsgate included Harry Webster in their starting line-up while the Hawks named Gills pair Harry Bridle and Harry Waldock on the bench for the Isthmian Premier clash.
With Ramsgate leading 2-1, Whitehawk levelled through Gills man Bridle, claiming a last touch from close range.
Moments later Webster earned the Rams a penalty. He was fouled in the box but Alfie Paxman put the spot-kick wide.
Paxman made amends later in the game as he hit a last-minute winner from the penalty spot.
Webster played the full match for Ramsgate while Bridle played most of the second half for Whitehawk and Waldock was an unused substitute.
Damien Theodore was back on loan at Burgess Hill Town – the club that sold him to the Gills earlier this year.
He played an hour of their game against Potters Bar Town, which ended in a 1-0 win for Hill – the only goal of the game coming from ex-Gills man Chris Whelpdale, belting the ball home from 25 yards.
Theodore had come close to scoring himself shortly before being replaced after a Whelpdale shot was turned onto the bar and his effort from the rebound was blocked.
