Pictures capture hidden wildlife across Sussex

Clare Boyling was out and about in Lindfield Rural, near Haywards Heath, when she spotted a range of butterflies.

Clare’s keen lens captured different species perched on flowers and greenery.

Lindfield Parish Council describes the area as having a “rich biodiversity with many habitats of importance to wildlife”, while the “rural character” is “much cherished by all residents”.

He got a great shot of a dunnock at the Pulborough reserve, which is described as being “set in one of the richest areas for nature in the country”  with “beautiful views across to the South Downs” by the RSPB.

A dunnock at Pulborough Mills (Image: Tom Shakespeare) He also spotted a group of crabs at Tide Mills, some of which were tucked away under a rock. 

Tide Mills used to be home to a pioneering water mill powered by the tide, a wartime seaplane station, racing station and a beach hospital.

The village’s last residents left when the Second World War began.
