The person was hit by a train between Brighton and Barnham last night (Friday, August 8).
At 8.47pm, Southern Rail said on social media: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Brighton and Barnham.
“All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.”
At 10.30, a spokesperson updated to say that there would be no trains running between Aldrington and Angmering.
At 4am, Southern posted on X: “Services are returning to normal between Brighton and Barnham following this tragic incident.
“We work closely with @samaritans and support the work they do. If you or someone close to you has been affected by this or any incident, there is always someone to talk to. Contact Samaritans on 116 123 free at any time, on any phone.
