Gillingham’s hierarchy have expressed their “extreme disappointment” over discriminatory comments alleged to have been aimed towards a match official.
Over 600 fans backed the Gills in their opening league game at Accrington but the club is now investigating the conduct of some of those in the crowd.

Gills’ managing director Joe Comper condemned the reported actions of some after the Football Association made the club aware of the allegations.
Gillingham have previously been fined by the FA over misconduct charges in recent seasons relating to crowd control incidents.
Mr Comper penned a message to the club’s fans, saying: “I, along with owners Brad and Shannon Galinson, were extremely disappointed to learn that offensive and derogatory language from our own Gillingham away supporters was directed towards a match official during Saturday’s game at Accrington.
“The Football Association made us aware of the incident yesterday afternoon and we will now be collating a body of evidence to investigate this unfortunate incident.
“We have gone on record before, and will reiterate now, that we will not tolerate any form of discriminatory or derogatory language or behaviour.
“Anyone who is found guilty of such acts will not be welcome at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, nor be allowed to attend away fixtures. Repeat offences could result in the Club being fined or even more severe punishments.”
He added: “I would be grateful if you could join me in making sure this is a season of football for all to enjoy.
“If you witness something untoward, please report it to enquiries@gillinghamfc.com or during matches text 07776 090083. We need to ensure that football is a safe space for all.”
