Exciting Kent batsman Tawanda Muyeye has penned a contract extension in a massive boost for the county’s supporters.
Muyeye, 24, signs fresh terms for another two years with an option of a third year.
Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Muyeye is the second-highest run scorer in this summer’s T20 Vitality Blast, having helped Spitfires book a quarter-final berth last week, after getting his first career T20 ton in last month’s win against Essex at Chelmsford.
The news of Muyeye’s new contract was released by Kent on Monday, with it having been announced on the same day that close friend Nathan Gilchrist will leave at the end of this season for Warwickshire.
There had also been speculation Muyeye would depart for a top-tier red-ball county but, instead, he will be around for a little while longer yet.
Muyeye, who will be with defending champions Oval Invincibles at The Hundred competition next month, said: “This club is now my home and I’m delighted to commit my future to Kent.
“Ever since I arrived here, I’ve been so grateful for the support that my team-mates, coaches and the Kent supporters have given me.
“I’m determined to continue to develop as a player in a Kent shirt and put in more match-winning performances.”
Muyeye joined Kent amid plenty of interest in March 2021 after he had been named Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year for 2020.
He made his Kent debut that year and, since then, has shown exceptional potential as a power-hitting right-hander.
Muyeye has made more than 100 appearances across all formats and scored in excess of 3,500 runs.
“I’m delighted that Tawanda has extended his Kent contract,” said director of cricket Simon Cook.
“He’s an outstanding talent with the mindset and work ethic that aligns with where we are going as a club.
“His commitment to continuous improvement and desire to compete at the highest level will be a significant asset to the club, going forward.”
