The Good Food Guide has revealed its list of Britain’s 100 Best Local Restaurants for 2025.
Following previous nominations, anonymous inspectors went across the country to test them out.
The 2025 list “celebrates wine bars serving sensational small plates, neighbourhood bistros breathing life into faded towns, and the cherished family-run gems where you can enjoy a great meal for under £20”.
Brighton restaurants named among the top 100 in Britain
Two Brighton restaurants made the list by the Good Food Guide, named among the best spots in the South East.
The first was Amari, which has already been celebrated this year by being added to the 2025 Michelin Guide.
The guide says the Spanish-inspired restaurant is “tucked down a busy side street in the north of the city”.
It has been praised for its “simple decoration” and a “menu full of dishes that deliver on their promise”.
The second restaurant making the Good Food Guide’s list was Med.
Mediterranean restaurant Med, in Little East Street, was previously the Good Food Guide’s best local restaurant in the South East.
Describing its offerings, its website says: “Modern European sharing plates with a playful twist are the order of the day, along with a relaxed vibe and great music.
“Dishes move with the seasons – so the freshest produce will always make an appearance, both on your plates and in the ever-changing seasonal cocktails.”
What do visitors think of Amari and Med in Brighton?
Both restaurants have been given rave reviews from visitors.
Amari is rated 4.7 on Tripadvisor, but with only 13 reviews, it could be described as a hidden gem in the city.
One said: “Best food I have had in Brighton. Small menu of imaginative and beautifully presented sharing plates, each one explained to diners by the chefs who bring each plate to your table.”
Another review said it offered a “Michelin-worthy experience”.
It continued: “I had dinner here tonight and it was truly exceptional.
“The atmosphere was lovely, friendly, and the service was outstanding.

“The pork and prawns were absolutely delicious flavoursome and perfectly cooked. The desserts were incredible as well. It’s no surprise they deserve a place in the Michelin Guide.
“One of the best dining experiences in Brighton & Hove. I can’t wait to return! Highly recommended.”
Med has also scored a 4.7 review rating on Tripadvisor.
One visitor described the spot as a “great little Brighton gem”.
They said: “A last-minute choice after visiting a Foodie Festival in Brighton’s Preston Park. The owner was doing a demo and we decided to try this place out. OUTSTANDING.
“The set menu was great all the food we had was delicious. The service was fantastic.
“We will make this a regular haunt if we move to the city. Literally one of the best meals out we have had in so so long.”
A second review, which also dubbed Med a “gem”, said: “The vibe, the service and the food were phenomenal.
“The only critique we had was that the portions are too big, but that’s a good problem to have – they kindly boxed our leftovers for us and they were thoroughly enjoyed later.
“This place really was that great, we’d break our rule of trying somewhere new when visiting Brighton and return.”
