EasyJet has pre-emptively cancelled flights ahead of a three-day strike which began on Wednesday and due to last until Friday.

The industrial strikes are being organised by the USO union who has stated that the Spanish cabin crew at EasyJet earn “the lowest wages in all of Europe”.

“While our base salary is €14,067 per year, our European colleagues earn from 29 per cent more in Portugal to over 200 per cent more in Switzerland.

“Therefore, we demand equal pay with other European bases. We are not asking for privileges, we are asking for what is fair,” says Pier Luigi Copello, general secretary of USO at EasyJet.

EasyJet has said that they pre-emptively cancelled a small number of flights to help customers rearrange their plans in advance.  These flights include three return flights on Thursday and two return flights on Friday and EasyJet said it will continue to do all it can to minimise the impact to travellers.

An EasyJet spokeswoman said: “Due to strike action by Spain based cabin crew union at Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante and Palma bases, we have seen disruption to some flights operating to and from these airports on 25, 26 and 27 June.

“This has meant four return flights from Gatwick on Wednesday have been unable to operate.

“We are doing all possible to minimise the impact of the strike action and any customers whose flights are impacted have been contacted directly and provided with options to rebook or receive a refund as well as hotel accommodation and meals if needed.

“We advise customers flying to and from these airports during this time to check our Flight Tracker for the most up to date information on their flight.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
