Brighton and Hove City Council has launched a consultation on ideas and early designs for the Elder Place corridor, an area including Elder Place, Providence Place and St Peter’s Place.
Jacob Allen, cabinet member for public realm, said that the council knows that the area in Brighton “needs improvement” and wants to make it “more welcoming”.
He said: “The Elder Place corridor is an area of the city that we know needs improvement. It’s unwelcoming, poorly lit and attracts graffiti tagging and anti-social behaviour.
“We want to turn it into an area the local community can enjoy with accessible streets, green spaces and areas for the community to enjoy.
“This is a great chance for residents and businesses to give us their ideas, feedback and tell us how they think the area could be improved so that its more welcoming and vibrant.”

The council has said that it wants feedback on proposals and early designs.
The plans seek to make the area more accessible, enable more walking, “wheeling”, and cycling, make it greener and more climate resilient, and also more sociable and safe, with providing well-lit streets, and space for arts and events and activities, and also connect with the surrounding area and better serve the local community.
The council has developer funding to help begin the project, with further improvements planned as and when new funding becomes available.
The closing date for responses is Tuesday, August 5.
As well as the online consultation, the council is also going to be holding several in-person engagement events, including drop-in and co-design sessions. The dates and locations will be announced. One is being held this evening at the Calvary Church in Viaduct Road from 6.30pm to 8pm.
