The site is located on The Slips, West End Lane, Henfield, and amounts to approximately 0.58 hectares.
Currently used as a campsite, the land is a long narrow field situated on the western outskirts of Henfield.
The proposal, submitted to Horsham District Council, involves the stationing of five static caravans for residential purposes, each containing three bedrooms.
The plans also include associated day rooms, a 10,000-litre potable rainwater harvesting tank for each unit, and parking for two cars per pitch.
Additional provisions include a touring caravan, a bike and bin store, and a day room/utility building for each pitch.

The proposal includes a 2m tall welded mesh panel fence on rubber or concrete feet.
The planning application states: “At this time, the district is subject to a substantial unmet need for Gypsy and traveller pitches, which has subsisted for a number of years, with no clear pathway for resolution.”

The plans aim to retain the surrounding trees and boundary treatments.
The applicant is also willing to accept a condition removing any permitted development rights for further installation of fences.

The site provides sufficient parking and turning space, as well as sufficient amenity space for the families, the application says.

The application states that the site is well screened on all boundaries and would not impact the amenity of local properties, none of which are adjacent to the site.
The plans are currently in a public consultation phase, which will continue until July 10.
