Tymal Mills reveals which bars Sussex cricket players love

“Well, we got a cleaner,” Tymal said. “That was one of our priorities. We realised that tidiness might not be a strong suit for two young lads playing cricket together for the summer. 

“I’ve never been too messy to be fair. I’ve lived away from home since I was 18, so I’m not too bad. But my wife is on me now anyway, she doesn’t let me live like I did back then.” 

Tymal says he and his family are very happy in Hove (Image: SCCC) Tymal says that Brighton’s reputation was part of the reason he chose to move down from Essex, and he talked about how the city draws players to Sussex. 

“And whenever you speak to opposition teams who come to play against us, it’s always one of their favourite away games.” 

Is that perhaps because of what happens after a game at Hove, rather than during? 

“Exactly”, he said. “That’s part of it, anyway. There’s always a good atmosphere. 

“If you’re looking for something a bit lively, there’s always something to find – well, you don’t have to look too hard, if we’re being honest.”

“Baked in Hove has been very popular with the boys. We’re often having brunch or breakfast there. Flatout and Flour Pot are great too. 

“We’re lucky that we’ve got a really nice pub on the ground, The Sussex Cricketer. We often spill into there after games. And the Black Lion in The Lanes is another popular one with the lads.

“You can often find us scuttling around Brighton when opportunities are available.” 

Tymal was speaking ahead of the Sharks’ home game against Essex on June 13, with Sussex hoping to continue their fine start to the T20 Vitality Blast. He says that whether you’re out with mates or with family, you can’t beat a game at Hove.

“It’s a really good night out”, he said. “There’s lots of bars, lots of entertainment going on. We’ve got a new pub in the ground called Silly Point, run by the guys at the Laine Brewery, so they’re local guys. That’s where my mates park themselves up during the game. 

“When it’s a Friday night, and people in certain parts of the ground are well-oiled, you can certainly have a good time. But there’s family sections in the ground as well if you have your kids with you. 

“And especially when it’s a tight finish to a game, nights down at Hove are really rocking.”

After facing Essex on June 13, Sussex have T20 home games on July 5, July 9, and July 18.
