Lancing’s Royal British Legion club closes doors for good

The Lancing & Sompting Royal British Legion Club, located at 6 Culver Road in Lancing, West Sussex, has officially ceased trading, a notice on the door states. 

Although the club had been at risk for several years, it has now closed for good.

The club had been at risk for several years. (Image: EDDIE MITCHELL) Royal British Legion (RBL) clubs offer community members a space to socialise and tend to organise events such as bingo, quiz nights, and live entertainment.

Ahead of their closure, club member Mumma Fitz posted on their Facebook page: “It is with great regret and sadness that the club will be closing its doors for a final time on Wednesday the 21st of May at 9pm.

“The club will be open at 12am as usual for a last game of card bingo winner takes all.

“From 7pm all drinks will be half price and we will be holding an auction for the remaining bottles of spirit.”

(Image: EDDIE MITCHELL) A number of its members have taken to the groups Facebook page expressing their sadness over the loss of the branch.

One commenter said: “It’s so sad to read this, and I’m sorry this little club has to close…

“I sang here for many years and its such an enjoyable venue with lovely people.

“I really wish you all the best for the future and I am really going to miss this lovely club.”

The club has now ceased trading. (Image: EDDIE MITCHELL) Another said: “We have only been members for a couple of years but have enjoyed all our time, we would like to thank everybody that made us feel welcome and we hope to keep in touch with all the friends we have made.

“Good Luck to all the staff, you’ve been amazing and to all the hard work from the committee.”

Posters are now pinned to the inside of the club’s doors which read “The club has now ceased trading.”
