The dance group from Port Talbot received high praise from all the judges
A group of young Minions from Port Talbot received high praise during Britain Got Talent’s live semi-final, as Simon Cowell said they “really have a chance of winning”. The energetic dance crew, named Lil M’s, are from TDM Dance school in Port Talbot.
The group, dressed as Minions, performed to a dance medley which included Galantis’ Peanut Butter Jelly, the YMCA and the Star Wars theme tune. Just as they did in their first audition they chose to poke fun at judge Simon Cowell, this time spraying him with yellow and blue ribbon.
The performance got the judges on their feet too as they danced along with the Welsh youngsters. The panel were all in agreement with their admiration for the group, receiving amazing feedback across the board.
Alesha Dixon was the first judge up, she exclaimed: “Oh my word what a start, what a start to the night!” For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.
“It’s never easy being the first up but I think you have captured the spirit of this show with so much joy and energy. All of you did exceptionally well. I loved the choreography, I love that you’ve done this to Simon. It was absolutely wonderful.”
Amanda Holden commented: “Your energy, the choreography, the music choices were just brilliant. Me and Simon were discussing the fact that we thought that was better than your audition. That’s what tonight’s all about.”
Bruno Tunioli couldn’t contain his excitement following the impressive performance, saying the group had “gone galactic”. He continued: “The force is with you. I didn’t think it was possible to have so much fun on stage as you did tonight, incredible.”
Referring to their antics with Simon, he joked: “And your fashion designers as well. It’s the best outfit Simon has had in a very long time! You look fantastic darling.”
Eventually they came to Simon, who was happy to see the funny side of their pranks on him, commenting “at least you didn’t make me look stupid tonight”.
He said: “I think this was better than your first audition. The music was brilliant, I could see a lot more work has gone in to it and I definitely think you really have a chance of winning!
“You never know on this show, genuinely I think the public at home are going to love you.”
After he’d finished sharing his thoughts the TV judge asked them to remind him what they would do with the £250,000 prize money if they won. One member of the group simply replied: “Bananas!” Each to their own!
After the performance presenter Dec encouraged them to keep targeting Simon and reflecting on the performance, said: “What a start!”
TDM Dance School has had groups previous groups including feature on the show before, namely Groove Thing, Pre Skool and Nu Sxool.
The age range for Lil M’s is 5-18, and they also have a choreographer who was one of the former dancers in Nu Sxool in 2012 according to the the school.
The two-hour live semi-final sees eight acts perform in search of a place in the live final on Saturday, May 21. Until then, the semi-finals will be shown weekly.
