A man has been arrested after armed police responded to reports of someone with a weapon at a traveller site.

Multiple emergency service vehicles have been seen in the area just off Vauxhall Road in Canterbury.

Eight armed officers and seven police cars were called at 3.20pm.

Suspected air weapons were recovered from the scene.

Police carried out a search of the area, which included the use of a drone.

Armed officers left at about 6.30pm but were then seen in nearby Broad Oak Road, at the junction with Vauxhall Road, near Lobster Van Hire.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.20pm on Monday to a report that a person had been seen with what appeared to be a weapon behind a gated area in Vauxhall Road, Canterbury.

“Officers attended and a man was later arrested nearby and taken into custody.

“Suspected air weapons have been recovered from a property off Vauxhall Road.”
