A popular restaurant in Abergavenny has been left damaged following a major fire that broke out on Friday evening. Emergency services were called to Fork and Fire on Brecon Road near Nevill Hall Hospital, after reports of the blaze.

Police and fire crews were quickly on the scene, as a dramatic image circulated on social media showing thick smoke pouring from the building as locals watched on in horror.

Gwent Police issued a warning at around 8.30pm on April 18, urging residents in the area to keep doors and windows shut while crews worked to bring the fire under control.

The restaurant, which opened in 2023, responded to the incident with a statement posted on their social media.

They said: “As you may have seen by now, we are currently dealing with the restaurant on fire.

“As much as we appreciate your concerns and your comments to the page and calling us, we ask that while we deal with this incident and make sure everyone is safe, that you refrain from posting and calling the restaurant.

“To say we are devastated would be an understatement.

“Thanks for your concerns and we will update you in due course.”

The full extent of the damage remains unclear, and the cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here
