The annual event, which returns to London in June, highlights an “eclectic range of venues across the UK”.

The awards look at several elements, including marketing, digital presence, design, service, style of offer and investment. 

In total, 256 pubs and bars have been shortlisted.

Sussex venues nominated for National Pub and Bar Awards

Three venues in East Sussex and three in West Sussex are among those across the UK that have made the shortlist.

In East Sussex, the nominees are The Argyle Arms in Brighton, The Geese in Brighton and The Royal Sovereign in Bexhill-on-Sea.

In West Sussex, the nominees are The Crown and Anchor in Chichester, The Red Deer in Horsham and The White Horse in Chilgrove.

The Argyle Arms says it has its own “quirks, vintage Brighton photographs and artwork throughout” and wants to “create an environment where you feel comfortable to come in for a drink without having to order food”.

The Geese describes itself as “Brighton’s OG award-winning Bangers and Mash pub”.

The characterful” Royal Sovereign pub is in the gorgeous seaside town of Bexhill-on-Sea.

Our recently spruced-up Crown and Anchor in Chichester is “nestled in the charming hamlet of Dell Quay, boasting one of the most exceptional locations on Chichester Harbour”.

The Red Deer in Horsham describes itself as a “characterful and a vibrant pub at the heart of its community”.

The final Sussex venue nominated is The White Horse in Chilgrove, found in the glorious South Downs.

A total of 29 venues were nominated across the South East of England.

What are the National Pub and Bar Awards?

The annual awards will be at the Big Penny Social in London on Tuesday, June 24.

A total of 94 County Winners will be announced live at the event, as well as the Highly Commended venues for each area.

The event will also crown the Pub Group of the Year, Bar Group of the Year, The Tyrrells Tyrrellbly Good Taste Award and the overall National Pub & Bar of the Year. 

On top of that, the 2025 event will launch the Top 10 Pubs and Bars in the UK list, which has been voted for by hundreds of operators from across the country.
