The full list of 85 musculoskeletal health conditions which can qualify for you for PIP
More than three million people will have more money in their pockets this April after the PIP rate rose by 1.7% this month. Increases will also help those on the attendance allowance and disability living allowance.
Benefit payments will however be paid on slightly different dates in April due to the Easter bank holidays. Those expecting a payment on Friday, April 18 or Monday, April 21 will instead receive their payment today, on Thursday, April 17, slightly earlier than usual.
It is estimated that around a third of the population live with some form of muscle or joint problem and those most severely affected can qualify for PIP, which is now worth up to £812.28 every month. The recent increases mean recipients on the highest amount will get an extra £163.80 a year.
The new rates will take the highest annual total to £9,747.40. For money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here.
Alongside arthritis, other common health issues include osteoarthritis, back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, gout, polymyalgia rheumatica, lupus, and ankylosing spondylitis.
If you are aged over 16 and below State Pension age, you may be able to claim PIP to help with a musculoskeletal condition. If the condition impacts your ability to work, you may be eligible for the ‘new style’ ESA.
PIP is given to those living with long-term illnesses, mental health conditions, or physical or learning disabilities. Attendance allowance assists with additional costs for those with severe disabilities requiring care assistance. The amount received depends on the level of care needed due to the disability.
