A man has been sentenced after threatening an estate agent with a paving slab.
Michael Beckett, 66, has been jailed for 10 months after picking up the concrete block after warning the female agent that she needed “a good slap around the head”.
Norwich Magistrates’ Court heard that he had threatened to attack the estate agent on 16 January 16 during a confrontation as she attempted to help him to put his house up for sale.
Josephine Jones, prosecuting, said he later told police “she drove me to it” and “all men want is a peaceful life, but women won’t give it to them”.
He was arrested again on 11 April after several people called police to report him wielding a hammer and smashing a gas meter and fencing, she added.
This was the latest in a series of incidents that has previously seen him harass neighbours with “unpredictable” behaviour including throwing objects, shouting abuse and posting items through letterboxes.
Beckett, of Nile Street, Norwich, pleaded guilty to two charges of threatening and abusive behaviour and breaching a restraining order imposed in June last year after previous offences against locals.
The court was told he had no previous convictions until March 2024 when a neighbour dispute escalated.
Richard Mann, mitigating, said: “The whole thing is rather sad. He is aged 66 and until quite recently had no convictions against him at all, however since then things have been going downhill rapidly.
“He is no longer working and is incredibly bored as he has no friends which has affected his mental health and seen him drinking.”
The court also extended Mann’s restraining order for five years to run until June 2029.
