A family have been left devastated after the sudden death of a 10-week-old baby boy, whose parents found him unresponsive at home.
Sophie Weeks and Chris Spencer, who live in Folkestone, were met with “the most heartwrenching discovery” when they realised their “beautiful” son Roman-Creed Loxton Spencer had stopped breathing.
Despite their desperate efforts to resuscitate him while waiting for paramedics to arrive, he could not be saved.
In the wake of the tragedy on March 23, family friend Olivia Willson, has launched a GoFundMe page with the blessing of the grieving parents to help give Roman-Creed a fitting farewell.
“Instead of planning future birthdays, Sophie and Chris now have just one day to make everything perfect for their baby boy,” the fundraiser reads.
“In the midst of grief, having a perfect send-off is the only thing that can keep a parent going when their world has crashed around them.”
While infant funerals are largely covered by funeral directors, the fundraiser will help pay for additional costs – including a horse and carriage, burial plot fees, outfits for the couple and their five other children, a special final outfit for the baby, as well as costs for the wake, food, decorations and a lasting headstone.
The GoFundMe appeal aims to raise £3,000 to cover these expenses and ease the financial burden on the family as they prepare for a funeral likely to take place at the end of April.
So far, more than £1,000 has been donated.
“Every little counts and will be truly appreciated,” Ms Willson wrote.
“If you can’t donate, please share to show support at this sad time.”
