The empty Broomfield Court care home in Barmulloch could now be transformed into a residential development with a cinema, gym, games hall and more, according to a new planning application.
Applicant W100 Ltd submitted the proposal for a co-living scheme aimed at students and young professionals.

According to documents, it would be a “high-quality, affordable accommodation tailored to single individuals in Glasgow, with a strong focus on shared communal spaces”.
The statement added that the development would offer “spacious, comfortable bedrooms, a range of communal living amenities, private outdoor spaces, and opportunities for communal social activities”.

This comes over a year after the previous application was withdrawn by Waheed Malik, the director of the company.
These original documents proposed a 74-bedroom, short-stay accommodation.
However, North East Glasgow residents grouped together against the plan, started a petition and eventually voiced their concerns at a meeting in January 2024.

Attended by around 150 people, the intense gathering ended when Mr Mailk told the room: “We will suspend our activities immediately. We will just withdraw the plans.
“We need to take on board every single person’s opinion here.
“I need to see how we can change the plans and go back to the drawing board.
“But I am not going to walk away.”
The updated application promises to redevelop the site “sympathetically” to its existing form.
Originally constructed as a purpose-built care home in the 1990s, the facility closed in 2022 and has been vacant since.
Glasgow City Council planning officials are evaluating the bid and a decision is expected by Friday, May 30.
The last day for comments is Friday, May 2.
