Although no incident has occurred and the threat hasn’t been verified, several schools contacted families urging children not to loiter in Bromley High Street after school today (April 4).

The Met is aware of general concerns and officers are at the scene.

A message was sent from the Bromley Schools and Youth Co-ordinator Sergeant and shared by school offices.

The email reads: “We have been made aware from several schools within the borough where students have raised concern around circulation on social media about potential acid attacks in Bromley centre this afternoon.

“We are reviewing the intelligence and at this stage have not established where it has originated from and how genuine the threat could be.

“We already have a policing plan regarding end of term policing within Bromley which is currently underway with officers present in the high street and officers at key transport hubs.

“I appreciate that some schools have finished for the Easter break but if still open could I ask for the following message to be relayed to pupils.

“This is hopefully to assist in creating large volume of young people congregating within Bromley Town Centre out of curiosity of what could occur.

“Could pupils be requested to not to attend Bromley High Street on leaving school and to loiter around the area, a police presence will be in the location and you may be requested to leave the area.

“Those who need to attend Bromley centre as a transport hub are recommended to go home as soon as possible from the location.”

Although the Metropolitan Police have not issued a formal alert to the public, officers are maintaining a presence in the area and monitoring the situation.

No incidents have been reported and no confirmed threat has been identified.
