More caravans join new camp near Highdown recreation ground

The vehicles arrived at Goring Gap over the weekend, with wooden posts appearing to have been cut down to allow access.

West Sussex County Council served those living in the three caravans with an eviction notice, threatening court action if they did not leave.

A new camp has since been set up near Highdown recreation ground in Worthing. 

Today, March 27, West Sussex County Council reported that there are now nine caravans at the site – three more than the six last reported on Tuesday, March 25.

“There are currently nine caravans parked at this location.

“All have been served with a notice requiring them to vacate the land.

“Should they fail to do so, court proceedings will commence.

“We will continue to monitor the site together with Sussex Police.”

Sussex Police confirmed the force is aware of the caravans and will support West Sussex County Council as the lead agency.
