In a TikTok video uploaded on Thursday (March 21), 16 people said south London, while seven insisted it was Kent—highlighting the ongoing divide.

Among those he spoke with were young people and even Metropolitan Police officers, who recognised him as they passed by.

One officer stated Bromley was part of south London, while another acknowledged its complicated history: “Well, it’s in the borough of Bromley, so it comes under London, but it used to be Kent.
“So, you’re stuck in the middle.”
According to Bromley Council’s website, the London Borough of Bromley was created in 1965, merging the former Beckenham and Bromley Boroughs, Orpington and Penge Urban Districts, and the Chislehurst and Sidcup UD.
Before 1965, these areas were part of Kent, with Penge previously belonging to Surrey before becoming part of London in 1900. In 1969, Knockholt transferred back to Kent from Bromley.
The council further clarifies: “Postally, Bromley is in Kent, and the administrative changes outlined have made no difference to this. There are some areas that are postally Bromley, Kent but administratively within the London Borough of Lewisham.”
Dilan’s viral video proves the debate is far from settled, with residents still split on whether Bromley belongs to south London or Kent.
