The closure of a busy route sparked “absolute carnage” as emergency drainage repairs were carried out.
There were long delays in the Sittingbourne area after the southbound A249 carriageway was shut.

The stretch was closed at 8am and was expected to reopen at 4pm, according to National Highways.
“The A249 southbound, Bobbing to Stockbury, including Bobbing on-slip and Key Street on the slip,” details of the closure state.
“Full closure for urgent tree works and drainage.”
But the route as reopened earlier than expected and traffic is now flowing through.
Many have taken to social media to express their frustration.
“Don’t bother trying to get off the island people,” one Sheppey resident commented.
“The A249 is shut from Bobbing to Stockbury.
“Best to go via the Lower Rainham Road for Medway.”
Another person said: “It was an absolute nightmare.”
“Absolute carnage everywhere,” another social media user said. “We left the island to go to East Sussex and haven’t made it. Stuck in Sittingbourne.”
