A cordon has been put in place on the A259 Marina in St Leonards this evening as a large emergency response has been launched.
Sussex Police and an explosive ordnance disposal team are currently investigating “concerns over suspected chemicals” at an address near the junction with Caves Road.
Homes in the area have been evacuated.
The full police statement reads: “We are supporting the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team with at an incident in St Leonards today.

“It follows a report over concerns about suspected chemicals found at an address on the A259 Marina, St Leonards, near the junction with Caves Road.
“Emergency services have been at the scene to complete an assessment, and a cordon and road closure in the area have been put in place.
“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
“Homes in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precaution while this incident is responded to.
“It is believed to be an isolated incident that is not believed to pose a threat to the wider community.
“Officers have thanked the public for their patience while this matter is resolved.”
