The water company has confirmed that an investigation has taken place and due to the position of the damaged pipe, a structural survey will be needed before repairs begin.
A passerby, who saw the burst pipe on Sunday, described it to be discharging “raw sewage” onto the street.

A spokesman for Southern Water said: “Our teams have been investigating a collapsed sewer on Madeira Drive.
“The damaged pipe runs above an underpass between the Sea Life Centre and beach. A structural survey is needed before we can begin repairs.
“We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Yesterday, Southern Water said tankers were being used to remove wastewater to ensure customers can continue to use their toilets, showers and sinks.
