Bāyit Bagels, situated in Unit 26 near the Ditchling Rise entrance, is inviting customers to try their “fresh out the oven” bagels.
The establishment announced on Instagram: “We’re thrilled to have opened our new home, our Bāyit, in Brighton Open Market. Come down and get your bagels!”
Bāyit, a Hebrew term for house or home, signifies the shop’s roots in Jewish tradition, with bagels believed to have originated in Poland’s Jewish communities in the 16th century.
The shop had a successful first day, selling more than 150 bagels, and the team expressed their gratitude for the warm reception.
They wrote: “What a turnout on our first day! Our “quiet soft launch” turned into a queue out the door and over 150 bagels sold. Thank you for welcoming us, Brighton Open Market.”
Bāyit Bagels will be serving their bagels, plain or filled, from 10am to 5pm, Wednesdays to Sundays.
Brighton Open Market welcomed the new addition on Facebook, while MDTea, another market resident, commented: “We are very happy to have you as our new neighbours at the market – but our waistlines might not be. Welcome to the hood!”
