Plans have been submitted to South Lanarkshire Council for a change of use application for the site at 15 Montgomery Street.
The proposal, put forward by the MHR Pension Trust, seeks to transform the 133 square metre space from its current Class 1A designation as a hairdresser into a Class 3 restaurant/café with hot food takeaway facilities.
The change of use is expected to bring about alterations to the internal space to accommodate the new function, but no structural changes to the building’s exterior are planned.
The site will retain its existing waste storage facilities, and no new vehicle access or parking spaces are proposed.
The application indicates that there will be no changes to the existing water supply or drainage systems, and the site is not located in a flood risk area.
The new establishment will solely use the existing water and drainage facilities without any requirement for alterations.
The site, currently without any parking spaces, will maintain this status, which suggests that the establishment will primarily cater to foot traffic rather than customers who drive.
The planning application, submitted by Stephen Govan of SGA Studio on behalf of the MHR Pension Trust, includes several supporting documents such as a site layout plan, elevations, and floor plans.
There are no additional studies or assessments required, such as environmental statements or transport plans.
The application was created and certified on February 6 and is currently under consideration by South Lanarkshire Council.
The proposal represents a shift in the type of businesses operating in the area, potentially offering a new dining option for local residents and visitors.
As the application progresses, updates will be provided on its status.
