The London Borough of Bromley has announced the prohibition of vehicular traffic on several roads to facilitate the replacement of telecoms equipment with new 5G technology by WHP Telecoms.
The affected areas include Park Avenue in Bromley and Spur Road in Orpington, as listed in a public notice.
The order is expected to come into effect on Monday, March 3, 2025, with no specified finish date.
However, the order will have a maximum duration of 18 months, and works are set to begin on or after the commencement date of the order.
The council stated that vehicles will not be allowed to wait in the affected streets until the completion of the works.
Any vehicle found waiting in contravention of these restrictions may be removed under the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986, or by the council under its powers.
Traffic will also be prohibited from proceeding in any street specified in the notice, unless otherwise indicated by traffic signs.
One-way working will be enforced, meaning vehicles can only proceed in the direction indicated by traffic signs.
Displaced traffic will be diverted through local streets as appropriate.
These prohibitions will be indicated by traffic signs as prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
The council has assured that access to properties will be maintained as far as practicable from either side of the closure.
Emergency access and egress routes will be maintained at all times.
The order does not apply to vehicles being used in connection with the works or to any activity done with the permission or direction of a police officer in uniform or a traffic warden.
Residents and motorists with any questions or concerns regarding these works are encouraged to contact the council’s Environmental Services Department (Street Services Section) on 020 8461 7507.
The director of environment and public protection, Colin Brand, signed off the notice.
The installation of 5G technology is expected to significantly enhance the speed and responsiveness of wireless networks in the affected areas.
However, the temporary disruption to traffic is necessary to ensure the safe and efficient completion of the works.
The council advises all motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and to be aware of the temporary changes in traffic regulations.
Regular updates on the progress of the works and any changes to the traffic restrictions will be communicated by the council.
Motorists are advised to follow all traffic signs and to exercise patience and caution while the works are underway.
