Paul Aldridge, 48, was banned from driving after a concerned member of the public contacted police about an Audi A4 being driven erratically on December 12 last year.
Aldridge was pulled over and admitted drink driving after a breath test.
The factory worker from East Grinstead blew 100uhg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
A court heard his car was changing speeds from 30mph to 70mph and weaving across the carriageway in Worthing, West Sussex.
Police found an open can of beer inside the vehicle.
He was banned from driving for two years at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on December 31.
Aldridge had previously spent 22 years in prison for beating a 60-year-old hitchhiker to death.
A Channel 4 documentary, What Makes a Murderer, analysed his crime and tried to uncover what drove Aldridge to kill.
Aldridge had picked up hitchhiker Tomas McLaughlin in Kent in 1996.
After listening to the 60-year-old talk about a big lottery win, Aldridge decided to rob him.
When it became clear the man had no money, Aldridge and his accomplice beat the hitchhiker and left him for dead.
It was found that the hitchhiker had recently walked out of a psychiatric hospital and made up the lottery win.
The trial judge described Aldridge as evil and dangerous.
Aldridge agreed to physiological and psychological testing as part of a three-week examination for the Channel 4 project.
Aldridge said: “I destroyed so many lives in living the life that I lived and there will come a time in my life when I’ll have to take stock.”
The TV experts suggested his brain showed abnormalities associated with a traumatic injury.
Aldridge was also ordered to complete ten rehabilitation activity requirement sessions and 80 hours of unpaid work, with £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
