Andrew Malcolm, CEO of the long-standing family business Malcolm Group, has landed planning permission, subject to conditions, for the space at the Braes in Forehouse Road.
The project will involve the construction of an L-shaped building consisting of two barns for storage and incorporated office accommodation.
A planning statement explained: “The Malcolm family’s investment and interest in Renfrewshire and the local economy, as can be seen by the fact that the children all work and live locally, and mostly within the same family estate that they were brought up in, is significant.
“The family head, Andrew Malcolm, is now looking to develop a combined agricultural building with home office space close to the family home.
“The proposed development would include a boardroom office which would allow Andrew Malcolm to work from home from a connected office accommodation rather than within the family home.
“The boardroom/office would provide video conferencing facilities to allow Andrew Malcolm to connect with his businesses and with existing and prospective business partners whilst also providing a relaxed meeting space for client visitors.
“The office element would also serve as the estate office for the Braes estate together with providing a combined office space for the different family businesses.”
The Malcolm Group, which has headquarters at Brookfield House, Linwood, is a prominent logistics and construction company.
It has roots that can be traced back to 1921 when the company was established by Donald Malcolm, Andrew’s grandfather.
Initially, the company operated as a small coal and bulk haulage firm before expanding its operations and diversifying its services.
While the Malcolm Group has main offices in Linwood, the planning statement said the CEO is keen to spend more time on his estate and manage his business interests from there.
In an official decision notice, which was issued at the end of last month, the local authority confirmed the proposal was in line with the provisions of the development plan.
