A homeless woman shouted at a market stall holder in a tirade of racial abuse that went on for 15 minutes.
Joanna Atkins, who has eight previous convictions for being drunk and disorderly, abused a market trader in Ashford, calling him a “foreign c***.”
The 54-year-old, of no fixed address but from the Ashford area, admitted threatening behaviour and being drunk and disorderly when she appeared before magistrates in December when a pre-sentencing report was ordered.
She returned to Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on January 22, to hear her fate.
The court heard she used threatening words and behaviour towards Saeed Hameed in Ashford’s High Street, on August 31, last year.
Magistrates were also told Atkins was found drunk and disorderly in Church Yard Passage in Ashford on November 16, last year.
Jeremy Kingsford, prosecuting, said: “On November 16 she was acting aggressively and shouting and she was intoxicated.
“She was then seen punching herself in the face, again shouting and continued being aggressive and couldn’t stand.
“She bumped her head on a wall and had to be taken to hospital and was still shouting at people calling them dirty old w***** and w****** and c****.”
Mr Kingsford went on to explain the other offence in August happened when Atkins was again reportedly drunk when she abused a market stall holder for at least 15 minutes before she was arrested.
The prosecutor added: “She told Mr Hameed to f*** off and she also called him a foreign c*** and the abuse went on for 15 minutes until he called the police.
“She has previous convictions for being drunk and disorderly.”
The court heard Atkins had a number of issues including homelessness and alcohol addiction after suffering several family bereavements.
As a result, magistrates placed her on an 18-month community order which will see her complete a six-month alcohol treatment requirement and attend 20 rehabilitation sessions.
She was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £114 and £85 court costs.
