Two vehicles crashed on the A282 near West Thurrock and there was an oil spill on the M25, both around 2pm yesterday (January 30).
There were no reported injuries.
The oil spill came from a broken down HGV and caused a lane closure between junctions 1A and 31 of the M25 anti-clockwise.
The oil was cleaned and the lane reopened at 5pm, at which time the AA reported “severe delays”.
These delays were reported by the AA as cleared by 7pm.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “At approximately 1.40pm yesterday a broken down HGV resulted in a lane closure between Junction 1A of the M25 and J31 anti-clockwise.
“The HGV spilt oil onto the carriageway, and a team on contractors treated the spillage while the lane remained closed.
“There were reported delays of 45 minutes on the approach with four miles of traffic congestion.
“The incident was fully cleared and the lane reopened at 5pm.”
An Essex Police spokesperson said that they did not have an update on the crash after transferring it to National Highways.
The London Ambulance Service was unable to locate the incident in its logs.
