Gillingham midfielder Armani Little has a decent track record against their weekend opponents Tranmere Rovers.
Little and the Gills could do with a lift. It was a mistake from the midfielder which led to Doncaster Rovers’ goal last Saturday, the only one they needed to take all three points home with them from Priestfield.
Coleman: Forward focus for the Gills
The players have tried to put that behind them ahead of another opportunity for points this weekend, away to lowly Tranmere Rovers.
Little scored the opener against Tranmere in a 3-0 home win back in mid-September – a win that left the Gills second in the table.
In his only other game against the team from Birkenhead, he scored in a 4-1 win for former side AFC Wimbledon.
“I don’t want to jinx it now but I don’t mind playing Tranmere,” said the former Southampton scholar.
“It seems to be the one I’ve been scoring against recently so hopefully I can play Saturday and bring that to the game.”
Little’s header back to goal last weekend was picked up by Doncaster’s Luke Molyneux before scoring past Glenn Morris.
The midfielder described how he felt.
“It was crap, when you make that mistake” he said. “Especially when they’ve gone and scored but you just have to get on with it, that’s part of the game. I’m looking to put that right on Saturday now.”
Looking ahead, he said: “I think it’ll be a quite high tempo game, a game where there will be a lot of second balls and quite physical. We’ll have to match that with our energy and our work rate and hopefully we can come out on top.
“Any time we’re going away from home I think we’re going to have to graft.
“There’s no freebie in this league so we’re going to have to work hard and everyone be on it.
“(The mood is) as positive as it can be, obviously we’re not where we want to be and where we think we could be, but we’ve just got to get on with it now, get our heads down, work as hard as we can and just try to put things right.
“We have to focus on Tranmere, be positive and go there and look to take the three points.
“I think the squad we’ve got is good enough to be up and around it so I think it’s time for less talk now and more action on the pitch.”
The Gills are the best supported team in the league when it comes to away travel and are sure to be well supported again this weekend.
It’s been a tough watch for those supporters in recent months.
Little added: “ We always travel well and that’s very much appreciated.
“Hopefully we can repay them with three points on Saturday and a good game of football.”
