Gillingham boss John Coleman has landed a teenage striker on loan from Premier League Chelsea.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan has agreed to move to Priestfield until the end of the season and could make his debut in League 2 for the Gills at Tranmere this Saturday.
The striker started at Chelsea before joining Southampton at the age of 11. But he returned to Stamford Bridge in February 2023 for an undisclosed fee.
The 19-year-old has featured for England at under-16, under-17 and under-18 level and has scored six goals in 10 Premier League 2 outings for Chelsea this season.
Coleman talked about potential new faces at his weekly press conference on Thursday.
He said: “I’d still like to bring one or two more in, that I think could change the way we play a little bit.
“We’re still hopeful to bring one in for Saturday, but that’s out of my hands.
“What we don’t want to do is just sign players for the sake of it. I could sign 11 players now. It wouldn’t make us any better. I won’t do that.
“If we don’t sign anybody that will improve us then we won’t sign anybody.
“We’ve already signed two good additions to the squad. Hopefully we’ll get a few more.”
