Despite a strong year for the streaming giant, the company has confirmed it will increase the price of membership in America, Canada, Portugal and Argentina.
Those across the Atlantic will now pay $7.99 per month (around £6.49) for the ad version. Those without ads will pay $17.99 (£14.60) a month. The premium plan will also be raised by $2 to $22.99 (£18.66).

Currently, those in the UK pay £4.99 for its cheapest plan, £10.99 for no adverts and £17.99 for a premium account, according to The Mirror.
When asked if prices would increase for British users in the coming months, a Netflix spokesperson said that there was “nothing to share right now”.

However, despite no confirmation that prices would increase, many across the country were left fuming at the prospect of paying more.
One person wrote on social media: “The service is simply not worth more than the current 4K top tier. I’ll cancel immediately on any further price increase this year.”

Another said: “This is absolutely disgusting. If they raise the price here in the UK then I [will] finally cancel my subscription.”
A third penned: “If this [the price raise] comes to the UK I’m just gonna cancel it and subscribe whenever there’s something new out – because there are months with no new stuff from Netflix.”
One disgruntled user simply added: “If the new price increases come to the UK, Netflix can f**** off.”
