The route between Nash Road and Knell Lane, near Wingham, is blocked while the issue is ongoing, and the fire service is urging people to avoid the area.

Drivers wishing to use the stretch will now have to travel through Ash using Sandwich Road and Pedding Hill.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Three fire engines are in attendance and crews are working to help those involved and make the scene safe.”

The collision comes just hours after motorists were told they could face a longer bout of traffic chaos on a different section of the route.

South East Water shut the A257 Littlebourne Road and St Martin’s Hill at the weekend as it continues working to fix a burst water pipe, which left hundreds of homes without a supply.

The police and ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
