Gillingham have recalled one of their young professionals from a loan spell.
Alex Giles, 19, had been on loan at National South Aveley where he featured in defence and midfield.
Giles joined Aveley in early November, initially on a month-long deal, and has gone on to play 13 games for the club in all competitions.
He returns to a Gills team under new management.
Aveley, in a post on X, wrote: “We would like to thank Alex for his efforts in an Aveley shirt and wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
His last game for the Essex side came on New Year’s Day in a 1-0 loss at Chelmsford City.
Giles had been an unused substitute for the Gills in their first five league games this season under former boss Mark Bonner and also started in the Carabao Cup game at Swansea.
There were also starts against Peterborough United and Crystal Palace under-21s in this season’s EFL Trophy.
Fellow youngster Sam Gale was also recalled from a loan spell at Chelmsford last month and was named in the starting eleven at Wimbledon, in what was Bonner’s penultimate game before he was sacked. Gale was an unused substitute in the game that followed against Bromley.
Giles and Gale both signed professional deals with the Gills under former first-team manager Neil Harris.
Young forward Joshua Bayliss, meanwhile, has just agreed a 28-day loan at Isthmian South East side Margate.
Bayliss played an hour on Saturday after starting that game against Sevenoaks, which ended in defeat.
