The Met Office warned that strong westerly winds may lead to travel disruption on New Year’s Eve.
Now today trains to and from Glasgow Central faced being cancelled due to flooding.
ScotRail announced it was aware of flood water on the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh via Shotts line at around 11.20am on Tuesday.
The rail operator states that the issue is making the railway ‘potentially unsafe’ at Carfin.
Due to this, the line has been closed in both directions.
It is understood that Network Rail engineers are on their way to the site to investigate the issue and inspect the track for damage.
This sparked delays and cancelled services as gusts of strong winds up to 70mph were predicted in a few exposed areas.
As a result, a warning was put in place from 7am until 11pm on New Years Eve for the entire city and towns nearby reaching as north and as Greenock and Cumbernauld.
A second alert was also put in place between 9am on Wednesday, January 1 and 3am on Thursday, January 2 heavy and persistent snow could bring chaos.
A new yellow warning has been put out for this time period as forecasters warn power outages may occur.
Two to five cm of snow is expected locally in the whole of Glasgow, reaching all the way to Clydebank in the northwest.
