At lunchtime, on Friday afternoon (December 13), we decided to dip into the beloved baked goods chain’s Xmas menu to find out if it was any good or not.
And to be honest, the Glasgow Times office was taken aback by the delicious treats we tanned into.

Known for dishing up its fantastic sausage rolls, beefy bakes (steak bakes), and sweet treats, the iconic British food chain opened its first store in 1951.
Since then, millions of hungry Brits, and others around the world, have enjoyed the eatery’s scran.
This year, its Christmas menu includes the Festive Bake, Vegan Festive Bake, Christmas Lunch Baguette, the Festive Flatbread, and an extensive range of hot and cold drinks.
So what did we try? We tried the Festive Bake, the new and ‘improved’ Vegan Festive Bake, the Christmas Lunch Baguette, and the Gingerbread Latte.

It’s fair to say some of the items we indulged in were better than others but here’s our thoughts about each item we tried:
The Festive Bake
The Festive Bake – a solid nine out of 10. The delicious treat was packed with chicken, sage and onion stuffing and bacon, covered in a creamy sage and cranberry sauce. Honestly, it was like a Christmas dinner squeezed into a pastry.
It was tasty, full of flavour, creamy, salty, golden brown and baked to perfection. If you’re looking for a quick festive scran, we’d highly recommend this delicious treat.
The Vegan Festive Bake
I mean, if I’m honest, the vegan festive bake just looks sorry for itself but maybe that’s because it wasn’t to my taste.
However, this feeling was mostly echoed in the Glasgow Times office. One picky colleague described the bake as being a ‘bit peely weely’ – which was understandable.
We found the vegan snack a bit pale and not as crispy as the normal Festive Bake and a bit too sweet.
It was also a bit soft and salty. While we didn’t like the vegan festive bake as much, it’s probably still a solid festive treat option for many.
Out of 10, the veggie bake was around a five out of 10.
The Christmas Lunch Baguette
Well, it’s fair to say that the Christmas Lunch Baguette was outstanding and stole the show.
“Crispy, full of flavour, packed with delicious chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, and stuffed with yummy stuffing”, is what I thought.
Priced at a whooping £3.80 – what a treat it was. Mostly everyone in the office loved the Xmas sub, with one hungry reporter describing it as ‘divine’, while another said it was ‘cooked perfectly’.
One part of the baguette we all enjoyed was its superbly crispy bacon.
However, the fussy journalist who described the vegan bake as ‘peely weely’ said the festive roll was a ‘bit heavy’ but they did make the good observation that it could have done with a Brussels sprout of two – and who doesn’t love a Brussels sprout?!
We’d definitely recommend the Christmas Lunch Baguette. It’s basically Christmas dinner in a roll.
The Gingerbread Latte
Well, what did we think about the Gingerbread Latte? It was top-notch.
This feeling was felt by everyone at the Glasgow Times. It was sweet but not overpowering and you could taste both the delicious coffee and the sweet hints of gingerbread.
One colleague stated it was ‘very good and a great way to warm you up’.
Another chimed: “It was sweet but not too sweet”, adding “It was a wee bit of Christmas spirit in a takeaway cup.”

Meanwhile, another said: “I really enjoyed the coffee.
“I found it wasn’t too sweet as some flavoured coffees are but had a good amount of gingerbread flavouring”.
Only costing a small £2.50 – the Greggs Gingerbread Latte is a perfect treat this festive period and to be honest, puts the big coffee chain’s Christmas drinks to a wee bit of a shame.
Overall, whether you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or a wee sit down scran while out tackling your festive shopping, we’d highly recommend trying Greggs Christmas menu as a treat.
