The event in St Peters Square, which runs from Thursday to Sunday in the run-up to Christmas, will no longer take place as strong wind and rain is set to pummel the city.
In a statement from organisers, they said they hoped to reopen on Thursday, December 12.

They said: “Unfortunately, due to high winds and adverse weather conditions, last night’s event closed earlier than anticipated and the site will remain closed this weekend to prioritise the health and safety of our visitors and staff.
“The event organisers emphasised that this decision ensures everyone’s well being during the forecast challenging weather and we are currently working to reschedule as much of the programming as possible.”
It has been a difficult start to the event after the fayre had to be evacuated on its opening night last night due to a tent pole collapsing in the strong winds and rain.
Storm Darragh is expected to cause further disruptions across this weekend, with the Met Office issuing a wind warning for Sussex and a rare red ‘risk to life’ warning for the west of England and Wales.
The event includes all the stalls you would expect from a Christmas market, including food, drink and a Santa’s grotto, plus children’s workshops and carol singers.
There will also be Winter Nights events for adults and live music.
The fayre was set up by Anne-Marie Chebib from Select Security, Becky Stevens from Hybred Events and Lisa Norman from Lout Promotions.
The organisers expressed their gratitude to the community and partners who have supported the event, including Brighton & Hove City Council, Visit Brighton, Orange Beach Bars, Artpod and Smart Power.
Anne-Marie, Becky and Lisa said: “While we’re saddened to have to close this weekend due to the forecast weather, the safety of our visitors and staff must come first.
“We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for the next two weekends.”
The remaining dates for the market are Thursday, December 12 to Sunday, December 15 and Thursday, December 19 to Sunday, December 22 from 10am to 11pm.
