Located on Oakley Road in Bromley, the Two Doves pub has a history dating back to 1834 and was rebuilt in the 1870s after a devastating fire.
Today, it stands strong, continuing to be a focal point for the community while maintaining its traditional charm.
The pub recently entered a new chapter in April 2024 when Steph Kirton, who had already spent three years managing the pub, took over ownership.
Her daughter Sadie has also joined the family business, preparing delicious food for customers from Monday to Saturday between 12pm and 4pm.
Whether you’re craving a freshly made roll, toasties, or a sharing board, the Two Doves has something for everyone.
At just 19, Jim, the manager, has quickly made his mark as an invaluable member of the team and has proven to be a perfect fit for the pub according to Steph.
The pub’s wider team is equally dedicated, with some team members having worked there for over 25 years.
The Two Dove’s function room is available for hire free of charge.
With a wide range of buffet options to suit any event, from birthdays and weddings to wakes and christenings, it has become a popular venue for local celebrations.
For over three decades, many regulars have called the Two Doves their second home.
Steph claims that while some have been visiting for more than 30 years, the pub also welcomes new faces of all ages.
The pub is also steeped in tradition. Every Christmas, the Ravensbourne Morris dancers bring their play and dance to the pub, keeping a long-standing local custom alive.
In January, the Two Doves hosts a wassailing event (ancient English tradition to ensure a good cider apple harvest), another nod to its commitment to Bromley’s heritage.
Steph explained that some regular customers even express their affection for the pub through poetry and artwork, which you can often find adorning the walls.
In addition to the history and sense of community, the Two Doves boasts a fantastic beer garden that’s perfect for summer days.
The Two Doves isn’t just about good times – it’s also a pub with a big heart. They regularly host charity events, including coffee mornings for Macmillan Cancer Support, where they recently raised just under £200.
They also support causes like cystic fibrosis, Bromley Lions Club, and Save the Lifeboats through collection boxes and raffles.
Steph and several members of her team have even taken part in defibrillator training to ensure they’re ready to help in any emergency.
With a history as rich as its sense of community, the Two Doves truly is Bromley’s local gem.
A Google review reads: “I did not think quality pubs like this still existed. Food is fantastic, the beer is kept well and served perfectly, the staff are very kind and friendly.
“The pub is exceptionally clean. 100 per cent recommend.”
