A 37-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of rape.
Authorities are investigating a report that a woman was sexually assaulted by an unknown individual near the Lockmeadow leisure complex in Maidstone.
The alleged incident occurred on the evening of Monday, September 2, while the woman was sitting by the River Medway. The suspect reportedly fled on foot toward the Millennium Bridge.
According to initial reports, the victim was approached by an unidentified man who began with unwanted conversation before sexually assaulting her for an extended period.
As of Wednesday, September 4, a local man, aged 37, was arrested in connection with the assault. He was apprehended at 6:55 pm and is now in custody.
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist with the investigation to come forward.
